There is something about photography – a technology now almost 200 years old – that remains special despite advances which have since brought us instant communication and live video streams.
The moment in time captured by a photograph can never be relived; it cannot be replied like a video can, and it is perhaps this element – old fashioned to only the foolish – which provides a basis for our imaginations to run free. Who wants to discover something that requires no discovery at all? It is a human instinct to want to extrapolate – often subconsciously – and a good photograph can easily become the genesis for a truly complex emotion or simply a subtle thought.
I believe that it is not the quality of the lens that makes a good photo, but one's eye for a picture. I believe in universal intrinsic beauty; after all everything around us was once fused in the heart of a star but ended up aligned in a different order.
The skill of the photographer is not so much in the operation of the camera – even though this is essential for perfection – but in the ability to diagnose a hidden opportunity; to think from another perspective, sometimes literally.
Below are the photography albums from Liam's portfolio. They are split into three themes, each with over 60 of best images taken over the last few years. Please feel free to leave a comment on anything you like by clicking the 'enlarge/comment' link on the left-hand pane of the album page.
